The service that locals have to offer is much more complete than what travel agencies provide and these services are also less expensive. Their only disadvantage is that they don’t have the economic means to promote their services. Locals are the best guides because they have been traveling all their lives along the Huayhuash mountain range. Travel agencies use mostly non-local guides that sometimes don’t know the area as well. Many times locals have had to save these non-local guides who are lost with their entire group. Locals know everything about weather prediction, the culture and the traditions of their ancestors, and are wise teachers of the abundant medicinal plants that grow there.
